Improved Keyboard Controls for Better Accessibility in the Webinar Room

To make our webinar room more accessible for all users and to comply with the requirements of the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG), we have comprehensively revised the keyboard controls. These changes allow for more complete and intuitive navigation without a mouse.

This article provides an overview of the key updates for the different roles in the webinar, as well as a complete list of all available keyboard shortcuts.

For Participants: General Room Navigation

Participating in a webinar is now fully possible using just the keyboard. You can easily access all interactive elements in the room:

  • Navigate between elements: Use the Tab key to move sequentially through all clickable elements such as buttons, links, and interactive windows.
  • Navigate backward: With Shift + Tab, you can jump back to the previous element.

A list of keyboard shortcuts available specifically for participants can be found further down in this article.

For Presenters: Flexible Content Control

Content control has also been optimized for presenters. There are now two convenient ways to control a presentation:

  1. Control with arrow keys (after activation): You can control your presentation as usual with the left and right arrow keys. To do this, you must first click once inside the presentation area with your mouse to activate it.
  2. Alternative control (always available): Regardless of which element in the room is currently active, you can always navigate through your slides using the Page Up and Page Down keys. This works even if you are typing in the chat or using another feature.
